My personal notes collected while messing with my HTPC running Windows XP SP2 and GBpvr with a Hauppauge PVR-500 (dual analouge tuners) a Twinhan DVB-C CI (AD-CP300 / 2033) and a TerraTec Cinergy 1200 DVB-C (digital cabel tv on the YouSee cabel network in Denmark).

Samsung UE32B6050 (6000 series LED TV) movie mode
Samsungs 6000 series LED TVs (in my case a UE32B6050) only supports music and picture playback from USB. The 7000 series also supports video playback, which is pretty neat.

Fortunately it's pretty easy to enable the movie mode on the 6000 series:

Samsung LED TV service menu

Now your series 6000 TV will think it's a series 7000 and the movie mode will be enabled :)

Put some video files on a USB key and plug it in, press [Media.P] (or [Menu], then "Media Play (USB & DLNA)") and you should now see the new "Movie" icon. Select it and you'll now be able to choose the video you want to watch. I've tired a couple of files, XvID (in an AVI container) and x264 720p (in an MKV container) and both plays perfectly.

Now, with the HTPC connected via HDMI it's not the most convenient way to have to move files to USB keys and then plug them into the TV, but it's pretty cool to know it is possible :o)

A little update...
It actually also enables the PIP (Picture In Picture) function from the 7000 series. It's not very well implemented though, it only works on the external inputs (like HDMI) and you have to select it through the menu ([Menu] then "Settings" then "General" then "PIP"...).

I also get the "Network" setup in the menu now, so I guess the next step is to get a Samsung Wireless USB Adaptor WIS09ABGN to see if it'll work with the series 6000.

A little (late) update, DVB-C multidec recordings now works in GB-PVR
Yup, and it has been for quite some time :o) I moved the newcs cardserver to my linux server (explained in more detail here: my linux notes - Newcs cardserver), and that stopped the freezing of my computer.

I'm recording to DVR-MS and I'm using the Acamd multidec plugin to decrypt the stream. All in GB-PVR 1.3.7 (current version at this time).

Next step will be to get two DVB-C cards working at the same time...

ACamd v0.5.0.9 multidec cardserver
Okay, it's been a while since I last played with the set-up (I actually put my Hauppauge PVR-350 back in the machine to have 3 analogue tuners...). But I bought another DVB-C card (a cheap used TerraTec Cinergy 1200 DVB-C), to see if the Twinhan card was responsible for the freezes in GB-PVR.

It turns out that it probably isn't a hardware fault, but rather NewCS that freezes the machine. I tried a new cardserver, ACamd, which isn't a stand alone program, but a multidec plugin. And voila, it works reliable!

ACamd v0.5.0.9 and Yankse v1.3.2.1

The strange thing is that while I do get perfect live tv in GB-PVR (stable too :o)), I can't actually get it to record anything meaningful. The only setting I get files on is the TS (TransportStream) setting. But the files I get aren't unencrypted, so they're no good...

I'll have to spend some more time tinkering with it :)

Yipii, GB-PVR, multidec, Yankse and NewCS is working!
Yay! It's not reliable yet (it freezes the machine once in a while), but it's working! It's recording encrypted channels from DVB-C (digital cable tv) by reading a subscription card from my cable provider YouSee.

This is the setup in short:

GB-PVR - The best PVR program I've ever tried, nice and easy to use.
Multidec api - Included with GB-PVR.
Yankse - a software Viaccess (and other) CAM, being called by GB-PVR through the multidec api.
NewCS - a card server that Yankse connects to to get the keys from the smart card.
a Phoenix/Smartmouse card reader - that NewCS connects to.

MyTheatre and Yankse! Working with NewCS!
Yay! I moved the Yankse files from the GB-PVR MDplugins dir to the plugins dir in MyTheatre and Yankse is now connecting to the NewCS cardserver and reading my Viaccess smartcard and decrypting the video stream! Now I "just" need to get it...

Trying to run WinCSC and Yankse separately
I got a tip on the DVBN forum that I should be only one of the multidec plugins. Running Yankse: Running WinCSC: It doesn't change much though, I'm still not getting any decrypting......

DVB-C working now in GB-PVR
:o) With the Twinhan driver version 1.0.5.9 I can now record in GB-PVR! I'm having quite a bit of trouble getting the multidec plugins to actually talk with my phoenix card reader and decode the non-FTA channels though.......
